PISCATAWAY, NJ — A four-car accident slowed morning traffic on Wednesday along River Road in Piscataway near the Route 287 interchange.
The crash, which happened just after 8:00 a.m. involved a Toyota Prius, a Toyota Sienna minivan, a Jeep Cherokee and an older model Buick sedan.
The Prius and Sienna were seen smashed together in front of the parking lot entrance to the Elks Lodge in Riverside Park, facing eastbound.
The Jeep suffered extensive front-end damage and blocked the westbound travel lane just off of the Exit 9 ramp from Route 287 North onto River Road.
And the Buick came to a stop on Wyckoff Ave., also with extensive front-end damage and deployed airbags.
Piscataway rescue crews responded to the scene as township police conducted their investigation.
It is unknown if there were any injuries.
Traffic was backed up in both directions on River Road and caused exiting delays at the Exit 9 interchange for Route 287 for the investigation and cleanup.
Eastbound River Road traffic was backed up from Riverside Park towards the Middlesex Township border near Baekeland Ave.
