PISCATAWAY, NJ – In Week 9 Red Division Greater Middlesex Conference football action, the final weekend before post season play starts, the Piscataway Chiefs jousted to a big win against the Old Bridge Knights, 42-14 last night at Lombardi Field.

The Knights got on the scoreboard first with a 91 yard opening kickoff return from Nick Sodano, giving Old Bridge its only lead at 7-0.

But Piscataway wasn’t having it. The Chiefs’ Elijah Barnwell answered soon after with a touchdown on a 2 yard run, and quarterback Danny Haus later threw a 35 yard pass to Nazhir James who put another score on the board before the end of the first quarter, putting PWay up 14-7. Kicker Mike Stalanyj was successful on both conversion attempts.

The second half brought even more excitement for the Chiefs. Sincere Williams scored on a 1 yard run from Haus. But then James kicked things up a few notches running in a touchdown off an impressive 85 yard fumble return making the score 35-7 before the end of the third quarter.

Old Bridge was down but not out as they attempted to bounce back from their deficit in the fourth quarter. Jake Esposito scored on a 26 yard pass from Artur Sitkowski, and kicker Jonathan Sammarco had a successful point conversion attempt.

But time ran out on the Knights as the Chiefs’ Marcel Mason added to the Piscataway score with an 11 yard touchdown run in the final minutes of the game.

Chiefs’ kicker Mike Stalanyj had a great night, scoring on all 6 kick attempts.

Final score: Piscataway 42, Old Bridge 14.

Piscataway enters the playoffs with this win and will host the Union Farmers in Chiefs Nation next Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1 pm.
