PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Piscataway Public Libraries were once again hosts to dozens of “makers” for the 4th Annual NJ Makers Day celebration.

The Saturday events at the Kennedy and Westergard Libraries featured activities and demonstrations by members of the maker culture with a focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) initiatives.

Among other areas, a variety of science presentations were held, and student and professional volunteers demonstrated examples of 3-D printing, holograms and robotics, and how drones can be useful to society.

More traditional maker activities were also available, including watercolor painting, Origami, doll and jewelry making, and cookie decorating.

And in the Kennedy Library’s Children’s Room, a construction paper map of Piscataway’s main roads was laid out across several tables, where children were invited to build landmarks out of paper bags to help mark the sections of town where they live.

According to its website, the annual New Jersey Makers Day program aims to “enhance community engagement and facilitate connections among New Jersey residents by exploring new and interesting opportunities for community-wide education, entrepreneurship and hands-on learning experiences.”

It is held every March at libraries and other locations around the state.

My So-Called Graduation

The last of my children graduated from high school.
