PISCATAWAY, NJ – Piscataway Township Council members voted at Tuesday’s regular meeting to approve an ordinance amending development plans for a 40-acre tract of land at 150 Old New Brunswick Road, the big lot next to the Lukoil gas station.

The Piscataway Planning Board has been reviewing developer, Duke Realty New Brunswick, LLC’s application to construct a 617,000 square-foot warehouse there which could be used for light manufacturing, light assembly, or a fulfillment and delivery center, according to the ordinance.

“The ordinance will also vacate the “paper street” where Lukoil is so this will become a true 4-way intersection,” said Mayor Brian Wahler. He explained that the proposed site plans will modify traffic patterns and improve the intersection where Old New Brunswick Road and North Randolphville Road currently meet.

The developer, Duke Realty purchased the land last Spring from another developer who originally planned a mixed use, retail/residential development for the property that is zoned for industrial use.

Passage of the ordinance allows the planning board to review Duke Realty’s proposed changes to the site plans.

During Wednesday’s planning board meeting, an attorney representing the developer requested deviations to their application in order to accommodate lighting concerns along property lines, changes to sidewalk plans, and their request to install a 4-foot-high fence instead of one that is 5-foot high around a wet pond on the property.

The planning board will hear the applicant’s requests at a future meeting in 2020.
