PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Piscataway Police Department can add accreditation to its list of accomplishments this year, as the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) gave its stamp of approval to the agency for meeting state and national standards.

“You and the members of your department can be justifiably proud of this accomplishment,” said NJSACOP Accreditation Program Director Harry J. Delgado.

According to a Thursday news release, NJSACOP looks at many factors when determining accreditation such as department leadership, personnel development, records and financial management, arrest and investigation procedures, weapons training and call responses.

“Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven way of helping law enforcement agencies calculate and improve their overall performances,” said Delgado. “Research shows that accredited agencies have 11% fewer police professional liability claims, 18% fewer worker compensation claims and 31% fewer auto liability claims.”

“For the dozens of current officers and the many more that have worked in law enforcement in one of our nation’s oldest townships, I am proud to continue leading this outstanding agency now recognized with a noteworthy seal of approval from my colleagues throughout the state,” said Acting Police Chief Thomas Mosier.

“Our rank and file officers as well as Lieutenant Michelle Pilch, our accreditation manager, deserve special thanks for working admirably to achieve this accolade,” said Mosier.

“Piscataway is proud of the professional excellence of our Township police and the trusting and valued relationship it has with all facets of our diverse community,” said Mayor Brian Wahler.  “I am pleased that the police chiefs of our state have given this well-deserved recognition to our police department.”

The Piscataway Police Department joins other law enforcement agencies in Middlesex County and across the state that have become accredited.
