PISCATAWAY, NJ — One person was killed when a car was struck by a freight train in Piscataway Thursday night. 

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Thomas Mosier of the Piscataway Police Department announced the fatal collision on Friday saying it is under investigation.

According to police, the initial investigation conducted by Traffic Safety Officer William Kloos of the Piscataway Police Department and Detective Jonathan Berman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that a vehicle was struck late last night by a freight train as the vehicle drove through a railroad crossing at the intersection of New Brunswick Avenue and Tyler Place.

A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was transported to a local hospital for medical attention, said police.
