Jonathan Powers

About Me: I have lived in Piscataway for over 12 years, but I am originally from Roselle Park. I graduated from Roselle Park High School and attended Union County Vocational School and earned my Automotive Technology certificate. I then worked part time for Acme Markets for nearly 27 years until 2016 when my Acme union hired me as an organizer. Although I took a pay cut, the opportunity to aid workers in uniting and standing up for themselves was priceless.

What I stand for: I believe that Piscataway’s government should truly be for all. It needs to be open and transparent to truly foster positive change in our town. Information and materials regarding upcoming local decisions and meetings should be put online. The council meetings should be broadcast for the entirety of the public to see. In order for Piscataway to be truly representative and equal, new leadership is necessary.

Why I am running: I look forward to being able to transfer my work as an organizer to my community. I will be able to effectively help my neighbors and stand up for what they deserve. As a Democratic County Committeeman I would be able to help set the policy agenda and ensure commitment to the important issues that affect Ward 2, District 1. I love Piscataway and hope to be able to represent my neighborhood as a committee member.
