PISCATAWAY, NJ – Piscataway students and staff members will go back to school this September with a new leader at the helm.

School officials announced on Friday that Dr. Frank Ranelli, the current assistant superintendent will take over as superintendent this July, replacing Teresa Rafferty who is retiring.

“At its May 9 Business Meeting, the Piscataway Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Frank Ranelli as its new Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Ranelli has served as Assistant Superintendent in Piscataway since 2014 under Superintendent Teresa M. Rafferty, who announced her retirement earlier this year. Dr. Ranelli will begin a five-year contract with the District beginning July 1.

“In making the announcement, Board President Alexandra Lopez noted Dr. Ranelli’s commitment to the Piscataway community. “The Piscataway Board of Education was united in appointing Dr. Ranelli as our next superintendent. This is an important decision for any board, and we are confident that Dr. Ranelli will continue to lead our schools, students, and staff in both academic and emotional growth. The Board appreciates Dr. Ranelli’s dedication to educational equity, his support for our diverse community, and his commitment to family partnerships.

“I also want to sincerely thank Ms. Rafferty for her years of dedication to Piscataway students,” Mrs. Lopez continued. “Under her leadership, we’ve seen student achievement rise, built a more challenging and wide-ranging curricula at all grade levels, significantly added to our arts offerings at all schools, and ensured a focus on the social and emotional well-being of students and staff.”

“I am honored and humbled by the support from the Piscataway Board of Education,” said Dr. Ranelli. “I look forward to working together to ensure success for all students in a welcoming and inspiring school environment.”

“As we begin this new chapter for Piscataway Schools, we are grateful for both Dr. Ranelli’s and Ms. Rafferty’s leadership,” said Mrs. Lopez. “We anticipate a smooth transition for the district in July.”
