PISCATAWAY, NJ -- Brian S. Dong, a senior at Piscataway High School has been chosen as a semifinalist in the 2019 Merit Scholarship competition.

Dong joins 16,000 other seniors in the annual competition, now in its 64th year of awarding scholarships to high achieving high school graduates.

According to officials at the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, Dong has “an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.”

“To be considered for an award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition,” said officials. “Over 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of them will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the ‘Merit Scholar’ title.”
