MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ -- Middlesex County officials awarded 2nd place to three Piscataway High School students for their video entry in the 2020 “Don’t Drive Dangerously” PSA contest.

“Congratulations PHS students for a 2nd place award for 2020 Middlesex County 3D PSA “Don’t Drive Dangerously,” said school officials in a Twitter post. “Produced by Ronni Garrett, featuring Reanna Garret and voiceover by Adriana Carreras, this PSA reminds students — don’t mix technology/driving!”












The students submitted their public service announcement, “Don't Let Technology Drive Your Life” as part of the county’s Comprehensive Traffic Safety program which educates teens on the dangers of driving while distracted and impaired.

Now “in its 20th anniversary, the contest’s mission has evolved from reducing alcohol-related fatalities among teens to combating all forms of dangerous driving,” said county officials in a press release on Tuesday.

COVID-19 restrictions extended the deadline to the end of the school year for submissions to the contest.

“The 2020 Awards Day and Safety symposium had been scheduled for May 8 at Middlesex County College, and the contest was set to include 200 students from 18 different schools,” said officials.

“After the pandemic hit, it was decided the contest should continue, and the submission deadline was extended until the end of the school year. Now, out of 25 Submissions from 14 high schools, 3 winners for video and 3 for audio have been named.”

The winners for 2020 by category are:

The contest is co-sponsored by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders; Robert Wood Johnson-Injury Prevention; The Middlesex County Superintendent of Schools; the Wellspring Center for Prevention; and NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
