Piscataway to Honor the Fallen at Annual Memorial Day Services and Parade

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Piscataway township will mark the unofficial start of summer with its annual Memorial Day events, all to pay tribute to the men and women who died in the line of duty while serving in the United States military.

Monday, May 28 will begin with a remembrance service at the Veterans Memorial in Possumtown Park, where flags are flown representing the branches of the military and prisoners of war.

Later, American Legion Post 261 on S. Washington Ave. will also hold a memorial service followed by the annual Piscataway Township Memorial Day parade.

This year’s parade will feature Patricia McElhaney as Grand Marshal. She will be joined by Queen Isabella Scott, Poppy Princess Leah Mendoza, Poppy Paige Norah Turner and Piscataway Red Wagon Kids, Dominick & Jace Centanni.

There is a chance for showers throughout the day, so parade-goers should bring their rain gear.

Then at 12:30, the Piscataway Rotary Club will host the 2nd Annual Memorial Day Family Event in Quibbletown Park which will include a "flags-in" ceremony, veterans’ acknowledgment and remembrance activities, crafts, games, a children’s bouncy house, a rock-climbing wall, music, and free food and drinks.

The schedule at-a-glance:

9 a.m. – Memorial Service at Veterans Memorial Park in Possumtown Park, 190 Possumtown Road

10 a.m. – Memorial Service at the American Legion Post 261 located at 840 S. Washington Avenue

11 a.m. – Annual parade starts at Arbor Firehouse on West 7th Street near Rock Ave. and follows S. Washington Ave. to the American Legion Post 261 which will have a hot dog lunch available for the public

12:30-3:00 p.m. -- 2nd Annual Memorial Day Family Event at Quibbletown Park (at the end of the parade route behind Quibbletown Middle School) is an online newspaper serving the Township of Piscataway.
