PISCATAWAY, NJ – Piscataway officially kicked off the 2015 holiday season Friday evening when residents of all ages gathered in and around the Piscataway Municipal Building for the annual lighting of the Christmas tree and the arrival of Santa Claus.

Mayor Brian C. Wahler began the festive event with a warm welcome and thank you to all community members and township officials for coming out to the ceremony. “Let’s not forget about our men and women in the military this holiday season,” he said at the conclusion of his greeting to the crowd.

Mayor Wahler then invited the children to help him with the lighting of the Christmas tree and holiday decorations. After the countdown and the flick of the switch, the front lawn of the municipal building was merry and bright.

The crowd cheered when a fire truck siren sounded announcing Santa’s arrival into town. He waved and then walked into the municipal building to pass out candy canes and take photos with his adoring young fans.

The annual tree lighting is a township tradition that Piscataway families look forward to each year.
