PISCATAWAY, NJ — (Updated Sat., 6/17/17) Police are investigating the shooting of a Piscataway man who was found Friday evening lying in the driveway of his W. 3rd Street home with multiple gunshot wounds, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Piscataway Police Chief Scott Cartmell.

The victim, Henry Stevenson, Jr., 24, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to officials.

At about 7:00 pm on Friday, Piscataway Police and emergency medical services responded to the backyard area of the home at the corner of Poplar Place where they found Stevenson lying on the driveway, officials said.

Investigators at the scene would not comment on the condition of the victim or the circumstances surrounding the shooting. But according to a news release from the Prosecutor’s Office, it is being investigated as a homicide.

Phone messages and emails left with Piscataway Police headquarters and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office for more information have not yet been returned.

One neighbor, who did not want to give her name said she has lived in the neighborhood for 36 years. She told TAPinto Piscataway that she heard two brothers who live in the house arguing when both men pulled guns on each other, firing multiple rounds, killing one.

Another neighbor, a 25-year old man who lives across the street said he was cooking when he heard police and EMS sirens. “I didn’t know what was going on and went outside when I realized the sirens stopped in front of my house,” he said to TAPinto Piscataway, also declining to give his name. “I’m not sure which brother it was, but I could see him on the ground with a hole in his head.”

Looking from behind police lines which extended into the intersection of W. 3rd Street and Poplar Place and across neighboring driveways and yards, apparent bullet holes could be seen on the side of a house located next to the driveway where the shooting took place. Crime scene investigators were seen documenting evidence at that property, as well.

It is not known if any occupants from that house or any other neighbors were injured during the shooting.

While cars could still pass on W. 3rd Street, Poplar Place was closed to traffic between W. 2nd and W. 3rd Streets.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Kyle Weaver of the Piscataway Police Department at (732)562-2311, or Detective Erik Larsen of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3263.

TAPinto Piscataway will have more details as they become available.
