RARITAN TWP., NJ – Police in Raritan Township are searching for a 17-year-old boy who was reported missing on Wednesday.
Chase Merone was last seen Wednesday at Wawa on Route 31 in Raritan around 12:30 a.m., where he was recorded on a surveillance camera.
Raritan Township Police Captain Kevin Donovan said detectives from his department “are reaching out to everybody they think can help” locate Merone.
Chase Merone was reported missing by his father, Jonathan Merone, police said.
The report was triggered by a note Merone left behind. In it, the teen wrote that he loves his father and stepmother, and admitted “messing up” and wanting to leave the Flemington area, according to an alert issued by police.
The note also said that he’d send his grandparents money for his phone, which he reportedly left behind at Wawa. The money would be sent after he “settled with a job,” police said.
Merone left on a long skateboard, Donovan said, and does not have a car.
Police have received three reports from the public of possible sightings of Merone, but Donovan said none could be confirmed.
Chase is described as 5'10" with black hair and hazel eyes. He weighs about 140 pounds.
Police are asking anyone who thinks they’ve seen Merone knows where he is to contact the department at 908-782-8889. If Merone is seen outside of the Flemington area, Donovan suggested calling local police there first.
