ELIZABETH, NJ - Retired Elizabeth Fire Chief Louis Kelly died due to complications from a heart attack suffered at the scene of a home fire in Clark last week, according to a statement released by the Elizabeth Firefighters FMBA Local 9.
The statement expressed deep sadness over Kelly’s death and bid peace to their former leader closing their remarks with, “rest easy Chief, we will take it from here.”
Kelly was the Union County Mutual Aid Coordinator. He responded to the scene of a house fire of a Clark Police Officer on Crescent Parkway in Clark on Dec. 8. While on the scene, Kelly collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Visitation will take place Monday, Dec. 19, at Higgins & Bonner Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, from 4 to 9 p.m.
The funeral mass will be at St Genevieve's Church at 200 Monmouth Rd. in Elizabeth on Tuesday Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. The burial will be private.
