The River Road Rescue Squad, Inc. is excited to announce the establishment of a strategic partnership with MONOC - New Jersey's Hospital Service Corporation. Effective March 1, MONOC is providing physician medical direction services to RRRS. Their elite team of EMS physicians will be providing training, quality assurance and performance improvement, Patient Care Report review, and tele-health medical consultation/control services. An EMS/Disaster Medicine fellow will also be doing a ride-along on a RRRS ambulance in the coming months. Under the auspices of the team, new medications and specialized equipment will be deployed.
Dr. Mark Merlin, System Medical Director for MONOC (the largest EMS agency in NJ, serving almost 50% of the population), will be serving as RRRS' Medical Director. Dr. Merlin brings unparalleled experience to the position- he is the founder of the first EMS & Disaster Medicine fellowship in NJ, and presently serves as Vice Chair of Emergency Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey and Physician for the elite New Jersey State Police TEAMS unit. He is an associate professor at Rutgers-RWJ Medical School and published over 75 articles in the areas of emergency medicine, critical care, and EMS. He also served as a medical consultant to the producers of the hit TV show "House, M.D."
In the event of a large-scale incident with numerous patients, such as a bus accident or large structure fire, the RRRS supervisor may request that the on-call EMS Physician respond to the scene. Only a handful of EMS agencies in the state have this capability.
As always, we thank our friends at Piscataway District 2 Fire for their continued support of our operations over the years.
We look forward to building on this partnership to benefit the patients in the communities we serve.
