Save the Date: Plainfield’s Annual FOPPL Wine Discovery Event to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

PLAINFIELD, NJ - The annual Friends of the Plainfield Public Library (FOPPL) Wine Discovery event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, and will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month to raise funds for the Plainfield Public Library. 

FOPPL is the fundraising arm of Plainfield's award-winning library, and proceeds from the group's events have supported many of the library's activities and facility improvements.  The Wine Discovery event is the most popular fundraiser, according to President Belinda D. Smiley, and it brings together a cross-section of residents from the historic Queen City. 

This year, join FOPPL and Honorary Chair, Carlos N. Sanchez, Deputy City Administrator for Economic Development at the beautiful home of Peter and Libby Price, located at 966 Hillside Avenue in Plainfield's Hillside Avenue Historic District, to celebrate.

Funds raised from this year’s Wine Discovery are being earmarked to continue the support of the many projects and partnerships that enhance both adult and children literacy and educational programs in the Plainfield community.  Some of these projects include the Design Studio for Makerspace projects, the Reading Rainforest, located in the Children’s Library, that is need of computer upgrades, Smart Tables and reading displays, and support for the continuation and expansion of adult literacy programs for Basic English, GED, and ESL.

Sponsorship opportunities are available to purchase for the Wine Discovery event through Sept. 15th, and all financial sponsors will be acknowledged during the evening.  Learn more herepdf.

NEW BRUNSWICK - Police today issued a plea for the public’s help in finding a missing 13-year-old girl.

Payton Tomesell, was last seen on Wednesday at 18 Abeel St., authorities said.

The girl suffers from anxiety and depression, and is taking medication, police said.

Tomesell is described as 5-feet, 9-inches tall, weighing about 120 pounds.
