PISCATAWAY, NJ – The frigid weather on Sunday did not stop several township residents from visiting the Piscataway Library to learn about making pottery, and for some it was their first time ever using a pottery wheel.
The Art-in-the-Round: Pottery Wheel-A Hands-on Demonstration was led by Peggy Santangelo who showed the participants basic hand-building and wheel throwing techniques, vocabulary and tool usage to form clay into small pots.
Santangelo, a professional potter with a master’s degree from Rutgers University in Art Education has been teaching the craft to adults and children for over 25 years.
At the library’s next Art-in-the-Round event, jewelry artist Debi Weiss will teach how to do beadwork. The first 6 participants will be able to make and bring home their own project. Other attendees will be given written instructions to take home but can learn by observing and asking questions.
The Art-in-the-Round: Beading session will be held at Kennedy Library on Sunday, March 19 from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The Art-in-the-Round series is being sponsored by grant funding. This funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders through a grant provided by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts /Department of State.
