READINGTON, NJ -- Recently hired Scotch Plains Police Officer Stephanie Roggina, 26, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and allegedly speeding away from a police officer in Hunterdon County on Friday, August 26, according to a story originally reported by NJ.com.

A Readington police officer reported seeing a black Ford Edge stopped at an intersection of Hillcrest Road and Route 629 for an extended period of time. When the officer turned on his lights, the car sped away and went off the road several times before eventually stopping. Roggina, a native of Flemington, was issued summonses for reckless driving, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash, and obstructing the passage of other vehicles, according to the NJ.com story.

Officer Roggina was hired in June 2016 by the Scotch Plains police department. She has been suspended without pay pending further investigation.
