PISCATAWAY, NJ - The severe thunderstorm that plowed through the area shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon brought with it dangerous lightning and wind gusts that were reported up to 60 mph in some parts of the state, according to weather.gov.
Power has been knocked out in sections of Piscataway and other towns in Middlesex County. Downed power lines have been reported along the River Road and Johnson Park areas and other sections of town.
Throughout the county, more than 5,500 households are without power, according to PSEG.
Other residents that did not lose power experienced temporary brownouts.
