NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A Somerset man was arrested and charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon unlawful purpose, and theft, according to a social media post from the Franklin Township Police Department.
Police say Monday morning at approximately 1:15 am, police were called to the Wawa Store at Route 27 and Cozzens Lane for a reported armed robbery.
According to police Cleon Jones Jr. walked into the store and began stealing several items from the store.
Police say employees confronted Jones, and he pulled out a handgun and continued to take items from the store.
Jones, fled the scene, escaped on foot and fired at least two shots from his gun while outside, according to police.
Detectives from the North Brunswick Police department worked with FTPD and the Bound Brook Police Department during the investigation, according to the social media post. During that arrest, a handgun was recovered, police say.
Police say no injuries were reported, and Jones will be jailed at the Middlesex County Department of Corrections pending a court hearing.
