SOMERVILLE, NJ -- Ed Webber of Whitehouse Station, NJ, will serve as Immaculata High School’s new Dean of Students.

In this role Webber will be partnering with fellow administrators, working with teachers, parents, and students to maintain structure and organization, conducive to a successful academic environment. Part of his responsibilities will be fostering a long-honored tradition of mutual respect and collegiality among the entire school population. In addition, he will supervise the activities of clubs, class trips, and school events.

Webber replaces Jeff Martinelli, who was recently named the principal of Immaculate Conception Elementary School, part of the parish’s pre-K through 12 school system.  In addition, Michael Gasko will now be head of the Music Department, a position formerly held by Webber.

Webber, an Immaculata graduate from 1999, began his professional career at his alma mater in 2003 after graduating from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts with a degree in Music Education. Working closely with the legendary Sr. Dolores Margaret, IHM, Webber provided the leadership to make the music department, including the Spartan Marching Band, an integral part of the Immaculata student experience.

In the music department, Webber was involved in every aspect of classroom teaching, curriculum development, Marching Band, Concert Band, Musical Theater, Summer Camps, a vertical teaching program with Immaculate Conception School and fundraising. He has served as Marching Band Director since 2005 and Music Department Chair for 5 years. Additionally, Webber has served the larger school community with appointments to the school's advisory council, academic board and strategic planning committee.

His experience in running such a large high-profile department, his enrollment in Seton Hall University’s School of Education for a Master of Educational Administration and Supervision degree, his knowledge of the school and its culture, and his commitment to Catholic education have prepared him for his new role as a school administrator.

In his years on staff, he has mentored many graduates, who have gone on to careers in music education, as well as the music industry.  Included in that group are staff members, new Music Department Chair Michael Gasko ’06 and Associate Director of Bands Sonia Sparkes ’06.

Webber is thrilled to be a part of the administration team, who will be guiding Immaculata through the exciting challenges facing all Catholic schools for decades.

“St. John Neumann said ‘God sees every one of us, he creates every soul … for a purpose.’ I have long felt that I am called to serve Christ and His church through working with young people.  What better way to do this than in our Catholic schools and most specifically, Immaculata! I have followed that calling and committed myself to Catholic education and its beautiful rewards,” Webber said.

In announcing Webber’s promotion, Head of School Joan Silo shared, “Ed has proven that he is passionate about students and their personal development, music, Catholic education, and Immaculata High School.  He has always felt a calling for leadership, and the talent he has in this regard is evident in the many and various successes of the Immaculata music program. Adding Ed and his wide range of experience at Immaculata to our administration team is such an asset and we are thrilled that he will continue his journey as an educator as a Spartan.”
