SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – Thanks to the quick thinking of neighbors, a group of suspected burglars saw their crime spree come to an end Friday.

Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka announced Sunday that three suspects, including two adults and a juvenile, were arrested moments after allegedly breaking into a township home Friday afternoon.

“The coordination between residents getting involved and rapid response officers eliminating escape routes led to this capture,” Hayducka said. “These arrests put an end to one group’s crime spree and saved countless other homeowners from becoming victims.”

According to police, the incident unfolded at 12:20 p.m. Friday when Kendall Park resident Maria Doherty saw a suspect break a rear window and enter a neighbor’s home on Cambridge Road.

Maria told her husband, Thomas, who immediately called 911, police said.

Thomas then stepped out of his home to see if he could observe the suspect and saw a dark car with tinted windows driving slowly up and down the street, police said.

As officers were responding to the neighborhood, Thomas then saw one of the suspects emerge from the home and run.

According to police, Thomas gave chase to the suspect who jumped into the dark colored vehicle halfway down Cambridge Road.

Thomas told the 911 dispatcher the vehicle fled on Springdale Road towards New Road.

Seconds later Officer Mike Leung and Sgt. Eric Buraszeski observed the suspect vehicle, described by police as a 2008 black Mazda, turn onto New Road.

Officers stopped the vehicle when it turned onto Hastings Road, police said.

The officers then arrested North Brunswick resident Jason Milline, 23, Rashiene Rochester, 23, and a 16-year-old male, both from Franklin, police said.

Police charged the two adult suspects with conspiracy to commit burglary and employing a juvenile in a crime.

The adults are being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick pending a bail hearing on Monday, police said.

The juvenile has been charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief and has been placed in juvenile detention, police said.

According to police, the group is connected to other recent burglaries in Somerset County, and additional charges are expected.

“Our 21 percent decrease in burglaries last year is directly related to people like the Doherty family,” Hayducka said. “They went above and beyond in helping us capture these suspects. They made the call, provided critical information, and made our community a safer place.”

Anyone with information about the group is asked to call South Brunswick Detective Sergeant Mike Pellino at (732) 329-4000 extension 7496.
