SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – Three people, including a young boy, were injured Sunday afternoon following a crash at the intersection of Route 522 and Kingston Lane, police said.
According to police, a Mercedes Benz was stopped for a red light in the westbound lane of Route 522 at 12:10 p.m. when it was hit from behind by a Nissan.
The collision pushed the Mercedes through the intersection and onto Kingston Lane, facing the South Brunswick Public Library, police said.
The Monmouth Junction Fire Department had to remove a young boy trapped inside the Mercedes with a possible broken leg, police said.
He and two other people involved in the crash were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police did not release the identities of the people involved Sunday afternoon.
Monmouth Junction First Aid, South Brunswick EMS and Plainsboro First Aid responded during the incident, according to police.
The crash closed three-quarters of the intersection for about an hour while the scene was cleared, police said.
An investigation into the crash is continuing, but no charges have been filed yet, according to police.
