South Plainfield Library Presents: Oldies but Goodies: Music of the 1960s

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - South Plainfield Public Library will present Oldies but Goodies: Music of the 1960s on Saturday June 10 at 1pm.  Come join Dr. Stephen Marcone as he takes you back in time with the music of the 1960s. This program is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The program is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

This walk down memory lane concentrates on the music of the beginning of the decade of massive cultural change prior to the “British Invasion.” The discussion will include America’s emphasis on its youth through the music of: The Beach Boys; Bob Dylan; James Brown; The Righteous Brothers; The Ronettes; etc. Included are audio and video examples of the above-mentioned artists plus early newsreels.

Dr. Stephen Marcone has written articles for numerous publications and has lectured at: Albright College, the Hartt School of Music, NYU and presented at many national and regional conferences.   He is the author of Managing Your Band, soon to be in its 6th edition, and is a frequent lecturer for the NJ Council on the Humanities. Each summer Marcone conducts the university’s Summer Jazz Ensemble. Professor Marcone holds a B.A., M.M., and Ed.D. from Syracuse University.
