SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The borough's Polish American Club will be the site for the Fight the Fight for Janice benefit on Saturday, July 28 at 3 p.m. The event is to help Janice Cooper, a longtime kindergarten teacher at the Spotswood School District's Schoenly School, in her fight against colon cancer.
Cooper was diagnosed prior to the start of the 2016-17 school year shortly after learning her husband had colon cancer as well. The East Brunswick mom of twins has not been able to return to the classroom since as she continues to battle stage four colon cancer. Her husband is currently in remission for the disease.
Cooper's retirement from the Spotswood School District became effective on December 1, 2017 after the Spotswood Board of Education accepted her letter of resignation for the purpose of retirement at the December 5, 2017 Board Meeting.
In order to help Cooper in her fight against colon cancer, two family friends have organized the Fight the Fight for Janice benefit on July 28. Tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for ages 13 to 20. Children 12 years of age and under are free. All of the proceeds from the event will go towards Cooper's mounting medical costs as well as to help the family.
The Star Wars themed, family-friendly event will feature food, a DJ, games, face-painting, tattoos and more. There will also be a cash bake sale and tricky tray.
Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event. However, they can also be purchased online ahead of time. People can make a monetary donation of any amount to Fight the Fight for Janice online as well.
The Polish American Club of Spotswood is located on 66 Adirondack Avenue.
