Are you a person with Medicare living with diabetes or know someone who is? Take control of your health through a free and fun six-week workshop series.
Meet others going through similar experiences and learn about diabetes and its risks, preventing complications, healthy eating, exercise, medication management, dealing with stress and depression, action planning, and much more.
“Having people to support you and uplift you to move on is really important. You don’t realize how important the support is,” said Barbara, a workshop graduate.
Most importantly, Barbara said her A1C (average blood sugar levels over a three month period) underwent a dramatic drop, decreasing from 8.7 to 6.5. In blood sugar numbers, that means about 202 mg/dl to 140 mg/dl, which is a huge accomplishment and made Barbara feel better.
Other graduates of this program have lost weight, improved eating habits, started walking, and more.
The free diabetes self-management workshop series will be offered at the Piscataway Senior Citizens Center at 700 Buena Vista Ave in Piscataway on Thursdays, August 9 to September 13, from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
Healthy snacks will be available and free literature will be provided.
To register, call the Senior Center at (732) 562-1133.
