BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Piscataway man and a North Plainfield woman were arrested on drug charges Friday after the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office received a tip that they would be in possession of cocaine.
Andres Nazario, 47, of Piscataway, and Amirah Thompson, 33, of North Plainfield, were arrested without incident at a Route 22 West restaurant.
According to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force received information that on Friday, a man and woman in a red colored SUV would be arriving at a Route 22 West restaurant with cocaine. A surveillance team was set up, Soriano said, and at 9 p.m., the detectives saw a red Ford Edge SUV with two occupants arrive and park.
Members of the task force approached the car, Soriano added, and advised the two of the narcotics investigation.
Soriano said Somerset County Sheriff's Office K9 Apex and his handler responded to the scene, and Apex gave a positive indication for narcotics inside the car.
A search warrant was obtained, according to Soriano, and police seized more than 1/2 ounce of cocaine near the passenger side door. In addition, Soriano said, police found under 1/2 ounce of suboxone strips in Thompson's purse.
Both Nazario and Thompson were lodged in the Somerset County Jail. Bail was set at $150,000 cash only for Nazario and $100,000 cash only for Thompson.
