UNION, NJ – A Middlesex County man was shot and killed by an off-duty Newark police officer outside a Union Township bar early Friday morning announced Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park.
Union Township police responding to Paddy’s Place, a bar on the 900 block of Rosemont Avenue, found the body of 37-year-old Michael Gaffney of Piscataway and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting continues and is being conducted in strict accordance with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General guidelines governing all investigations into incidents involving the use of deadly force by law enforcement.
