PISCATAWAY, NJ – Piscataway Township and NJ Clean Communities welcome the Central Jersey Stream Team (CJST) for the first time at Riverside Park in Piscataway this Sunday, Oct. 18, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m..
Volunteers are needed and encouraged to bring along friends and family members to assist in different ways. All are welcome to participate and you can volunteer for community services hours.
“Our goal for this event is to clean a roughly one-mile stretch of the main stem of the Raritan River and its banks between Bound Brook, Middlesex Borough, Piscataway, South Bound Brook and Franklin, as well as a full scale cleanup of Riverside Park in Piscataway,” states CJST on their Facebook event page. “As we pick up where we left off in September and head downstream our task doesn't get easier, and we need YOUR help to restore this beautiful stretch of river!”
Volunteers are to meet at the Riverside Park Pavilion, 430 Riverside Road in Piscataway for sign up, instructions, safety information, and to enjoy breakfast. CJST will also provide supplies such as garbage bags, work gloves, tools and life jackets.
Per CJST tradition the cleanup will have teams in the river and on land to make this event a success.
Upon registration volunteers will choose a team. “Registration/RSVP is important so that we know what kind and how many supplies and refreshments to bring and set up, especially life jackets if you'd like to wear one for the in-river team,” states CJST.
Please note these important volunteer instructions from CJST:
- If you are in the river be prepared to get WET and DIRTY! Dress accordingly. Wear footwear and clothing you don't mind getting wet and dirty and sunscreen. And if you have a canoe that you'd like to bring along please feel free and let us know. The more cargo space the better.
- If you are on a land team wear footwear and clothing you don't mind getting a little to very dirty, depending on what you might find, and how deep it's buried, and sunscreen.
