As we sit here on the cusp of the Primary, I do fully ponder: I shouldn’t have to run for office, but there is a bitter feeling among many that we are no longer represented. Do my children deserve better? Do yours? We’re all standing around waiting for a glorified politician to waive their wand and make things better.
Does a Super PAC represent us? The candidate with the hefty bank account? It would be indisputable to say that our founders would find this concept atrocious. Our state has so many pressing issues to face: Unsound pension funding, inadequate school funding, wasteful spending, credit downgrades, under employment, and an unfriendly business environment. Yet many feel so complacent that they don’t show up on Election Day to elect leaders that will address the problems.
We, the public, are partially to blame for our State’s present problems. For if we elect only people who smile and tell their lies, what would one expect as an outcome? Does a dollar bill lead? Apparently, the answer for some politicians is yes. Unfortunately, their conclusion may be accurate.
I have found one truth in my search for who I am as a politician: It’s about people who care and people who don’t care. Tell me now, which are you? I certainly hope it’s not the latter, because we have enough of those in this world. You’ve spend years devastating all in your path trying to divide one another into silos of Liberal, Conservative, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian. Ultimately, our state has been left in ashes over this squabbling.
To my party I say: Am I the dreaded RINO? We like giving things names so we can bask in our ridicule. Have I said anything yet that has the conceded the principles of the party I run under the banner of? Who decides what a Republican is beyond its core principles? I wish to represent those who have no voice and the family that just scrapes by. Remember them too on primary day.
