PARAMUS, NJ – A 58-year-old Garfield woman leaped to her death overnight from the parking garage at Ikea in Paramus, authorities said.
Police were called to the shopping complex shortly before 5 a.m. Monday, when an employee with the parking lot sweeper service discovered the body, according to Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.
Further investigation revealed that the woman drove to the top of the parking garage after 7 p.m. Sunday, locked her vehicle and jumped, the chief said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and police do not believe anyone else was involved, Ehrenberg said.
The investigation conducted by detectives from Paramus police and Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, along with officers from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, the chief said.
