A Piscataway resident for over 30 years, with my wife June, I have raised two children that have graduated from Piscataway’s public schools. In addition, we are blessed with a grandson that is a Children’s Corner graduate! A former soccer coach, I was also an active parent in the schools, and served on Board Committees, before running for the school Board in 2012.
I have also been active in statewide advocacy groups, such as NJ Citizen Action where I served as Co-Chair and Chair of the Health Care Committee. NJ Citizen Action is a watchdog group that advocates for working families. In addition I was the Chair of the former NJ Immigration Policy Network which advocated for the rights of immigrants.
As the NJ Training and Apprenticeship Coordinator for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, I help high school students and other young adults make the school to work transition and find pathways to high paying careers and college educations.
I am currently the Vice President of our Board of Education and also the Chair of the Policy and Legislative Committee. Being on the School Board (a volunteer position) requires commitment, time and responsibility - to our children and the entire Piscataway community.
On Tuesday Nov 6th, the voters of Piscataway have a decision to make, Do they want our schools to continue going in the right direction, or do they want to go backwards. We have made significant progress in recent years in raising academic performance, improving school safety and increasing pride in our schools and morale among the staff. We have done all this while returning funds to the taxpayers and keeping our per pupil cost at around 20% below the average.
I love Piscataway, I love our schools and for our kids sake, I want us to continue in the right direction. Because this is really about “our children.”
Please consider voting for me and the entire Column K team – Ira Stern, Atif Nazir and Isaac Peng. Together we have 18 years of experience on the School Board. We have the experience and knowledge to face the many challenges confronting us in Piscataway and to public education in NJ (e.g.: high special education costs, loss of funds to charter schools and locally - the continued building of high density housing which will increase demands on our schools. Please give us the chance to confront these challenges, and continue the progress we’ve already made by voting Column K: Stern, Nazir and Peng on Election Day. Thank you.
