SOMERVILLE, NJ - The open invitation from the Downtown Somerville Alliance asked visitors to "Show Their Local Love," by offering a full day of sidewalk sales, specials on merchandise and a suggestion to lounge and picnic on the lawn of the Historic Somerset County Courthouse after purchasing food-to-go from restaurants lining Main Street,

Mother Nature cooperated - the event had been postponed because of bad weather on Aug. 29 - and provided sunny skies and temperatures in the '70s. Main Street restaurants and retail stores, the Division Street pedestrian mall and the courthouse lawn were busy all day, with a mini-concert by the Chloe Bee Trio in front of the courthouse, followed by a hard-hitting three-hour performance by the Bob Lanza Blues Band on the Division Street Summer Stage from 6-9 p.m.

There were bargains to be had, with discounts at many stores and free giveaways.

And for music lovers, Bob Lanza was handing out free CDs.
