PISCATAWAY, NJ -- Rebecca Walker, a Piscataway resident uses her gift with words to express how many have been feeling since the start of the pandemic, with all the changes the world has had to face in order to stay safe.
A sense of sadness that has taken over for some, as they continue to practice social distancing from others, especially loved ones they could no longer embrace in the effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Walker has written the poem, Melancholy to share with our readers.
Melancholy by Rebecca Colby Reed Walker
I am
Feeling melancholic
For days gone by
Where I felt security
With the knowledge
And presence
Of my elders
To love and guide ...
I am
Feeling melancholic
For the days of our youth
And our health...
The times that didn't feel
So
Uncertain…
I miss those carefree times...
I am
Feeling melancholic
For those who are
Gone
Thinking about friends
And family
No longer
With
Us
And
Missing
Them...
I am
Feeling melancholic
For youthful enthusiasm
And
Innocence...
I want to
Shop in a store
Without being afraid!
To celebrate and commune
In a restaurant
Without fear of the others!
To sit in my church
And worship...
I want to hear songs of praise
In
Person!!!
I want
To hug without caution
Those that I love!
I want to know that
Those whom I cherish
Are happy
And safe
And will remain
That way!
I am
Feeling
Melancholic...
And
I
Want
To
Feel
Joy
Again!!!!!
