PISCATAWAY, NJ – Three Piscataway Board of Education members took their oaths of office at the school district’s annual Reorganization Meeting to officially begin new terms in office.
Shantell Cherry, who was first elected in 2015 joined another incumbent, Kimberly Lane who began her first term in 2020 to return to the nine-member board this year.
Newcomer, Zoe Scotto, a 2020 Piscataway High School graduate raised her right hand to take the oath for the first time as one of the youngest members ever elected to the board.
Also during Thursday’s reorganization meeting, board members re-elected Shelia Hobson Board President for 2021, and Kimberly Lane elected vice-president.
“Thank you everyone for another opportunity to serve as board president and also to serve the students, faculty and the community,” said Hobson in her acceptance remarks.
A parent in the district asked for an update on plans to reopen schools this semester.
“Our plan is to open in the hybrid model Feb. 1st,” said Superintendent Dr. Frank Ranelli. Families have until Friday, Jan. 15 to make changes to their student’s learning plans.
In his letter to district parents on Friday, Ranelli also stressed that under the hybrid instructional plan, “parents must complete the COVID Daily Parent Form every day prior to a student’s arrival to school. Students who arrive to school without completing this form will not be allowed to attend class.”
He added that, “a lack of consistently completing this electronic form will result in the student being placed on an all-remote schedule.”
“Bus passes will be honored although some times may be off by a few minutes,” said Ranelli adding that they will be mailed towards the end of January.
