BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Raymour & Flanigan Furniture & Mattress store on Route 202 in Bridgewater hosted a Birdhouse Building Workshop for Piscataway Girl Scout Troop 81105 at their in-store community giving event.

During Saturday’s workshop, members of the Junior troop completed the requirements to earn the Animal Habitat badge by building and decorating birdhouses that they will use in their own backyards to observe and document the activity of various species of birds.

They also invited their family and friends to participate along with the children of customers who stopped by the showroom to shop for new furniture, explaining the importance of birdhouses in the environment.

And to help them get started with birdwatching in their backyards, the children were given snack-sized baggies filled with bird seed to take home along with their newly decorated bird houses.

“The girls were excited, prepared and provided valuable information about birds and birdhouses,” said showroom manager, Lynn Saltarelli who worked with the troop to coordinate the event.

Store manager, Evan Buckingham presented the troop with a check for $500 on behalf of Raymour & Flanigan. The donation will be used to help with troop expenses including the costs for them to pursue the Bronze Award, the highest honor given to Girl Scout Juniors.

“This was a fun, girl-led event,” said troop leaders. “We are very proud of our girls and grateful for this experience.”

According to the company’s Community Giving web page, “Raymour & Flanigan makes monetary donations and hosts a wide variety of local events to bring people together and raise awareness of charities and community outreach efforts in over 95 furniture showrooms throughout the Northeast.” is an online newspaper serving the Township of Piscataway.
