SOUTH AMBOY, NJ - Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (NJ-06) will host a press conference with business and consumer advocate leaders to highlight the dangers of robocalls on Monday.
In 2018, Americans received an estimated 47.8 billion robocalls.
Last May, consumers received an estimated 20 million robocalls in the 732 area code alone.
The event will take place at a technology firm working to stop robocalls.
Pallone, who has an office in New Brunswick and is Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, recently announced a bipartisan deal on his bill, H.R. 3375, the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act. Last week, the legislation was reported out of the Committee’s Communications and Technology Subcommittee.
The bill would empower the FCC with strong enforcement tools to reign in robocallers. The legislation would ensure that consumers have the ability to stop calls they previously authorized and require incoming calls to have authentic caller identification information before they are delivered to customers.
Pallone’s bill has the support of numerous consumer groups including the National Consumer Law Center, Consumer Reports, and the AARP.
