PISCATAWAY, NJ - County residents looking to get rid of hazardous household waste items can dispose of them at Piscataway Technical High School, 21 Suttons Lane on Friday, July 19 from Noon - 6 p.m.
The Household Hazardous Waste Program is a service provided for Middlesex County residents only, and is free of charge.
The event will be held rain or shine.
Containers can not be over 10 gallons when filled with items that are considered hazardous waste such as adhesives, aerosol cans, antifreeze, brake fluid, car batteries, drain cleaners, fire extinguishers, flares, fluorescent bulbs (no broken bulbs), gasoline, gas/oil mix, kerosene, lighter fluid, mercury, motor oil/filters, paints (latex/oil), paint thinner, pesticides/herbicides, photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, propane tanks, stains/varnishes, thermometers, and thermostats, rechargeable and button cell batteries (individually bag each battery or tape each terminal end prior to transport).
Alkaline batteries can be disposed of in the regular trash.
If disposing of asbestos-containing materials call 732-745-4170 to pre-register, and the items must be double bagged.
Items that are not acceptable include appliances/furniture, electronics, empty containers, explosives and munitions, infectious/medical waste, smoke detectors, tires.
To help feed Middlesex County residents in need, please bring a non-perishable food item to the recycling collection event. Donated items will be delivered to MCFOODS, the Middlesex County Foodbank.
