MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ - The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch for Piscataway and the surrounding areas from 2 pm this afternoon through this evening.
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to bring periods of heavy rain to our region this afternoon into early evening. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected for some areas, with local amounts up to 3 to 4 inches possible, according to the NWS.
Excessive rainfall within a short period of time can lead to rapidly rising water and flash flooding, particularly in areas and along small creeks and streams, on roadways, and in areas of poor drainage.
The NWS advises drivers to turn around...do not drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles, states the NWS.
