Increases in coronavirus cases continue to slow in the Garden State. Statewide, there have been 153,104 cases, an increase of 385 overnight, with 11,081 an increase of 96, according to the State Department of Health.

Saturday was the 18th consecutive day that the daily total of new COVID-19 cases in the state was less than 2,000, and the one-day increase of 385 is the smallest in more than two months.

The New Jersey Department of Health reported that 2,974 patients were hospitalized with confirmed or suspected coronavirus cases as of Friday night. That is 62 percent fewer patients in the hospital for COVID-19 than the peak in mid-April, when there were 8,084 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus in New Jersey. Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are down more than 14 percent in just the last five days.

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant in following the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control, the State of New Jersey, and public health officials when it comes to social distancing, hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, and disinfecting common areas. These are the best ways to reduce the rapid spread of the virus.
