PISCATAWAY, NJ —The sounds of car horns honking broke the lunchtime rhythm of one Piscataway neighborhood as about 10 carloads of Bob Holbrook’s closest friends paid him a ‘socially distant’ visit to wish him an early ‘Happy 92nd Birthday’ on Thursday.

“We love you Bob,” they shouted from their cars in celebration, waving homemade signs with messages of love written on them for him to see as he greeted them from his driveway.

The group of friends even sang ‘Happy Birthday’ as they presented Holbrook with his favorite pizza lunch, and a blooming plant and birthday cake complete with the number ‘92’ for candles.

“This is what friends and family in Piscataway do for each other,” Catherine Carhart Cupp, Holbrook’s stepdaughter said in a Thursday Facebook post.

Cupp, a nurse in Virginia was unable to make the trip back to Piscataway to celebrate Holbrook who has lived in the Heights section with his wife and family for 55 years. She wanted a way to honor him, so she called on some long-time friends to help out.

“My girls led the charge and made so many people so very happy,” Cupp said in the post.

Holbrook, who was overjoyed with excitement for the visit said he officially celebrates his birthday on Friday, April 3rd.
