EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - In 2006, Jose Sanchez-Texidor committed two murders in front of a pizzeria when he tried to purchase an illegal firearm in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. Prior to that, say the Puerto Rican police, he had a record for trafficking in narcotics.  During yesterday's morning rush hour on Route 18, he made the mistake of riding without a seatbelt and smoking pot in East Brunswick.

On October 3, 2017 at approximately 8:58 am, Ptl. Reginald Wright conducted a motor vehicle stop on Highway 18 near Tices Lane after observing 2 passengers not wearing seatbelts in a white box truck, says an official report issued today by Lt. Sean Goggins of the EBPD.

While speaking to the driver of the vehicle, Jose Jimenez-Castro, 28, of South Bound Brook, NJ, Ptl. Wright detected an odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle.

Subsequent investigation revealed Jimenez-Castro in possession of a quantity of marijuana under 50 grams and drug paraphernalia.  One of the passengers in the vehicle, Jose Sanchez-Texidor, 32, also of South Bound Brook, NJ was found in possession of marijuana as well.

Both Jimenez-Castro and Sanchez-Texidor were placed under arrest and transported to East Brunswick Police headquarters for processing. Jimenez-Castro was charged with Possession of Marijuana under 50 grams, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and was released on his own recognizance.

Sanchez-Texidor, who initially gave Ptl. Wright a false name, was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Puerto Rico for a double homicide in 2006.

Sanchez-Texidor was charged with Possession of Marijuana under 50 grams, Hindering Apprehension and being a Fugitive from Justice.  He is currently lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.

My So-Called Graduation

The last of my children graduated from high school.

My son and daughter threw their caps high into the air and cheered their liberation from one symbolic institution before contemplating their matriculation into other, much larger institutions significantly further away.

Or at least far enough away that they won’t be needing rides home from ...
