BELMAR/LAKE COMO, NJ — The Belmar/Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is awarding two scholarships to students age 10 to 18 who are currently involved in an Irish cultural activity.
Each $500 award is to be used toward the expense of the school, program or formal instruction — whether it is learning Irish step dancing, the Irish language or how to play an instrument associated with traditional Irish music. Instruction provided by an organized group, such as a pipes and drums group, is also acceptable.
Residents of Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex Counties are eligible to apply, and they must demonstrate a commitment to continue their Irish culture studies for at least two more years.
All applicants are required to submit a 100-word essay describing their interest in studying Irish culture and a letter of recommendation from someone who can attest to the student’s participation, proficiency and demonstrated commitment to continue to learn.
The deadline to apply is Friday, February 28. All applicants will be notified of the status of their application by March 20.
