PISCATAWAY, NJ – Fire crews from the Possumtown Fire Company attempted to rescue a cat from a Runyon Ave. treetop late Thursday night, but to no avail.

Crews positioned the fire company’s aerial ladder truck in a backyard in order to reach high branches in the tree, but officials at the scene said the cat only moved higher.

Units from the River Road Fire Company and other agencies also responded, helping to cut lower branches so the aerial ladder could be put into position.

A firefighter climbed to the top of the boom where he was able to shake some of the branches and call out to the feline, but was unsuccessful in his attempts at the rescue.

No description of the cat was given, nor was there an update on what its owners will do to get it back.
