PISCATAWAY, NJ — The Piscataway Police Department issued an advisory on Thursday, alerting residents of coyote sightings near Piscataway High School and Green Acres Athletic Field.
A post on the department’s Facebook page said:
“We had some recent coyote sightings in the area of Piscataway Township High School and Green Acres Athletic Fields. Initial reports indicated that the coyote appeared to be in good health and did not display any overt aggressiveness at the time. We want to remind residents as well as employees and visitors in the area to avoid contact with stray or wild animals.
The following tips can help prevent or minimize the injury by an animal and/or other wildlife:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE OR DISTURB THE ANIMAL OR WILDLIFE!
Tell others to vacate the area if a dangerous animal may still be nearby.
If approached by the animal, make yourself as big and loud as possible.
Do not turn your back on the animal.
In addition, we advise that if anyone is ever scratched or bitten to seek medical treatment and immediately report the incident to the police department at 732-562-1100.”
