Plainfield, N.J. – March 3, 2017 - The Plainfield Public School District (PPSD) in partnership with the Greater Central Jersey Clergy Association (GCJCA) will host the 2017 Community Empowerment Expo, Saturday, March 25, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Plainfield High School, 950 Park Avenue, Plainfield.

The 2017 Community Empowerment Expo consists of Job, Health and Education Fairs, in addition to free financial and legal information. There will be employers on site to answer questions and conduct interviews to perspective employees.  Among them are Lowes, Walmart, Home Depot, BJ’s, Ducan Securities, E&S Home Care Solutions, and SSC Security. Representatives from the US Armed Forces, the Army and the Navy, will be providing recruitment information.

The Health Fair will provide free testing to expo goers via several participating health organizations:

  • The Horizon NJ Health mobile unit will provide blood pressure and glucose checks.
  • The Lupus Foundation will provide information on treatment and living with the disease.
  • The Sisters Network of Somerset will provide information about breast cancer.
  • JFK Rehabilitation and several of their departments will offer additional free health check-up.
  • IRIS House will provide information on HIV/AIDS
  • Team Life a subsidiary of the American Heart Association will talk about diseases of the heart and how to live healthier.

The Education Fair will include the presence of post high school, college and career institutions, including:

  • Union County College
  • Middlesex County College
  • Pillar College
  • Grace Bible College
  • DuCret School of Art
  • Plainfield Public Schools District
  • Second Street Youth Center Foundation

In addition, PNC Bank will provide financial advice and several lawyers from the community will be on site to render legal advice on a variety of issues.

Minister Mollie Germain, member of (GCJCA) said, “We are looking for this to be a day of information, demonstration and inspiration, to provide our community residents access to valuable resources.”

"The 2017 Community Empowerment Expo will bring together our school district, local businesses, prospective employers and health providers to positively impact our families and students as they look to the future,” said Dr. Debra J. Sheard, Acting Superintendent of Plainfield Public Schools. “Our students are looking to transition to post-secondary education, vocational training, and employment opportunities. We are extremely pleased to be a part of this endeavor and we hope this expo will provide the access our students and families expect.”
