After a quick cup of coffee, the day started with a visit to the Shakespeare Garden located in Cedar Brook Park where the Plainfield Garden Club members were hosting their annual Shakespeare in Bloom garden tour. The garden was in full bloom with a wide variety of flora – from Wisteria, Poppies, cuckoo buds (Ranunculus), Daffodils and Irises to name a few. While we were there, Freeholder Rebecca Williams stopped by for a visit. If you have a green thumb and enjoy the outdoors, consider joining the Plainfield Garden Club, a local treasure.

Next we were off to the Fishing Derby which was also in Cedar Brook Park at the pond and met representatives from Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs, the partner agency with the City of Plainfield Recreation Department. While we were there we witnessed many families enjoying the outdoors with a couple of recent catches, that were measured and quickly released back into the pond.

The music festival at the Coffee Box on South Avenue was the next venue to visit to check out the live music and enjoy a healthy lunch. Several folks were on hand enjoying the outdoor music.

After enjoying avocado toast and a cold refreshing ice tea, we headed downtown to the Organization for Recovery’s 4th Annual Community Outreach & HIV Awareness Fair on the plaza at Park and Front Streets. There we found a crowd and numerous community agencies providing health information, free screenings, raffles and giveaways.

A busy day and happy to get out and enjoy some of the local activities in Plainfield. Enjoy the pictures of our day!
