PLAINFIELD, NJ - Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County will host their annual Union County Youth of the Year competition, in which one teen member will be named Youth of the Year on Tuesday April 5 at Galloping Hill Caterers, 325 Chestnut Street in Union at 6:00 p.m.

The winner will next compete against other Boys & Girls Club members across New Jersey for the state title and a partial college scholarship. The State Youth of the Year will then vie for the distinction of becoming one of five regional representatives across the country, and ultimately contend for the title of National Youth of the Year of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. As Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier youth recognition program, the Youth of the Year title honors outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome. Candidates must be between the ages of 14-18 and exemplify outstanding leadership skills, academic achievement, and service to Club and community. The candidates must be involved in a curriculum-based activity, such as Keystone Club, SMART Moves, Career Launch, Money Matters or Goals for Graduation.
