SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Scotch Plains-Fanwood overcame a 5-point halftime deficit in a tight defensive game against Plainfield to win 47-41 and advance to the next round of the Union County tournament.

Tommy Drubulis (4) paced the Raiders with 11 points. Jack Brady (23) scored 9 points, including a 3-point shot and a first quarter dunk. Nigel Nelson (12) added 9 points with 7 of them coming on free throws.

"I thought tonight's game was a huge win for our team this season and our program moving forward," said second year head coach Steve Siracusa. "We did expect a tough, good game. They (Plainfield) play the top teams in the state night in and night out, so their record does not reflect how good they really are."

The Raiders had chances to add to their lead, but did not shoot well from the foul line.

"I was frustrated with how we shot from the free throw line overall tonight, but we made some big free throws late when it counted most."

Romey Talley (10)  led Plainfield with 11 pts. Dante Porter (22) added 10 mostly in the first half, and Antwan Spencer (11) had 8. Plainfield ends their season at 6-16 (2-4 in the conference).

Scotch Plains-Fanwood will play nationally ranked Roselle Catholic on Saturday at A.L. Johnson High School in Clark. Coach Siracusa, whose team improved to 20-3 with tonight's victory, is looking forward to the challenge.

"We're going to prepare for Roselle Catholic by focusing on what we do best and valuing one possession at a time on both ends of the floor."
